The ANC Free State provincial conference will seemingly not be able to take place this weekend after the High Court in Bloemfontein ordered that the conference not be held until branch general meetings which have been declared unlawful and irregular by the court are held in a lawful manner. Twenty-nine branch general meetings have been declared unlawful and irregular. Hanno Bekker‚ attorney for the 26 ANC members who brought the case‚ said there had to be seven days’ notice given before a branch general meeting could be held. In a bid to have the provincial executive committee of the ANC disbanded in the Free State‚ a disgruntled party member will ask the High Court in the next few days to prevent the structure from performing any duties. Lefa Mifi sent a letter to provincial chairperson Ace Magashule‚ calling for the PEC to be disbanded by October 14‚ saying it was an illegitimate structure. A disgruntled ANC member in the Free State has given the party structure until the end of the week to disband the provincial executive committee‚ failing which he will approach the High Court. Lefa Mifi has sent a letter to current provincial chairperson Ace Magashule‚ calling the PEC an illegitimate structure and vowing to take legal action if the PEC has not been disbanded by Sunday‚ October 8.
